Margie Brooks Henderson
Margie Brooks Henderson, 71, born October 19, 1953, passed away Friday November 22, 2024. Margie was surrounded by her family as she succumbed to long term illness at Erlanger hospital.
Proceeding Margie in death: mother, Lou Addie Neely Henderson; father, David Brooks Henderson; both of Fayetteville, Tennessee; sister, Mary Elizabeth Henderson Watkins; and brother-in-law, Clyde Hart Watkins, Columbia, Tennessee; nephew, Charles David Cunningham, Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and beloved pet Miss Kitty.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Amanda Thurman (Bobby Wells) of Dunlap, Tennessee, Angie Hogan (Kenny Summers) of Pikeville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Taylor Thurman (Alex Stewart), Rebekah Thurman (Scott McPherson) of Pikeville, Sydney Thurman (Calvin), and Savannah Thurman all from Dunlap; sister, Judy (Charles) Cunningham of Fayetteville, Tennessee; nieces, Nancy (Will) Harris, Williamsport, Tennessee, Beth (Jim)Fullerton, of Lewisburg, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren; bonus daughters, Lesa Frady (Shauna) of Athens, Georgia, and Tennille Collins (John) of Niceville, Florida.
Margie loved people, if you thought of her as a friend, she already claimed you as family. Honorary family members include her caretaker of five years, Kathy Bayless and Maria Magistro caregiver for the past year, and Matt and Leslie Lockhart who took on such roles as caretaker, medical and spiritual advisors, family counselors, and at times referees for our family squabbles.
Margie was of the Christian faith and attended Pikeville United Methodist Church. Margie held a variety of employment positions, including Executive Director of the Lincoln County Red Cross and United Way, worked for the state Department of Tourism, Director of Community Development for the Fayettville-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, and the first female deputy at the Bledsoe County Sheriff Department under Sheriff George Morgan. Margie was awarded such honors as Honorary member of the House Calendar and Rules committee (Nov. 1987), recognized as An Outstanding Citizen by Joint House Resolution No. 602 signed DePiest Phillips and Senator Cooper ( March 1988), Appointed Colonial Aide de Camp for the Governor’s staff by Governor Ned McWherter, served as honorary member of Senator Cooper’s Staff, National Rifle Association Certificate of Qualification as Marksman (June 1992), appointed to the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations TACIR by Governor Ned McWherter. The award she cherished the most was December 25, 1990 when she was recognized as Mother of the Year by her two daughters.
A memorial service will be held at Pikeville United Methodist Church with Bro. Greg Smart and Bro. Matt Lockhart officiating. A graveside service will be held at Stewart’s Creek Cemetery, in Fayettville, Tennessee. Dates and times of memorial services will be announced at a later time.
