Martha Sue (Sapp) Soderstrom
Martha Sue (Sapp) Soderstrom passed away at the young age of 92 on July 9, 2026.
She was born November 14, 1933 in the Mount Crest community, Highway 30 North of Pikeville, Tennessee. She attended Allen’s Music School where she learned how to play steel guitar and played professionally for many years. Martha taught beginners guitar lessons for one year at Mary V. Wheeler Consolidated school in Pikeville in 1965 with 39 very talented students. She also taught private guitar in the late 60’s in Knoxville Tennessee. She attended Daughn’s Business College in Nashville Tennessee in the early 70s. Besides loving music, she liked patchwork quilting, genealogy – history and visiting the sick and disabled members of the Smyrna United Methodist Church in Smyrna, where she was a member.
Proceeding her in death, husband, Lowell H. Soderstrom; parents, Bob and Rosa Mae (Lewis) Sapp; sisters, Marguerite Julia Blomberg, Eva Jane Gilbert and Mary Lou Burgess; brothers, Glenn, Bobby, Billy Joe, Wayne and Henry Clay (HC) Sapp. Also preceding her were grandchildren, Michael Wilson and Jesse Soderstrom.
She is survived by sister, Trudy (Dale) Hale of Dayton, and brother Dwight (Linda) Sapp of Pikeville. She has four children, Vickie Clark, Kenny (Becky) Soderstrom, Glenn (Germa) Soderstrom and Sandy (Curtis) Claibourne; grandchildren, Kevin Soderstrom, Callie (Justin) McKendree, Lee (Chelsie) Claibourne, Chelsea (Nate) Ireland, Jett Soderstrom and Chance, Bryson and Levi Soderstrom, great-grandchildren, Annslee, Abby, Lakelee, Asa, Dax and Camren.
Martha was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother to her family and an example of God’s unconditional love and grace to all.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 15, at 1:00 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Greg Smart officiating. Burial will be in Blackburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, , from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. CDT.
