Woman faces charges for hoarding close to 100 animals in poor living conditions

Close to 100 animals – from guinea pigs to birds to cats and dogs — found in very poor living conditions are being rescued from a home in the Beaver Hill Dam area of Bledsoe County. On Tuesday, July 14, the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Department acted on a search warrant at a home and land on Poplar Road, reports Detective Drake Brown. The alleged suspect had not been arrested as of Tuesday afternoon, said Detective Brown, but once she is arrested, her name will be released along with her charges.

Information from concerned neighbors lead to the investigation that uncovered the animals, he said. Some animals were found inside the doublewide home, while others were outside, chained to stakes or in sheds.

Rhea County Animal Shelter is assisting the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Department with the collection and processing of the animals along with other agencies.

See the July 23 issue of The Bledsonian-Banner for more on the story.
