Martha Jane Swafford
Martha Jane Swafford, 97, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026.
She was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, whose presence will be deeply missed by all.
Martha Jane was born in Pikeville, Tennessee, on December 22, 1928, to the late Hezekiah Monroe (Roe) and Bessie Lorena Hale Swafford. She dedicated her life to her family, her 52-year banking career, her church, and her passion for volunteerism.
Martha Jane spent her entire financial career at First National Bank of Pikeville, assisting the residents of Pikeville and Bledsoe County for more than 52 years. She was also very active in the First United Methodist Church of Pikeville, serving as
Treasurer for many decades, as well as a member of both the United Methodist Women and Choir. Martha Jane was also involved in the Garden Club, Zonta Club, and many other local charities. A lifelong college football fan, Martha Jane also spent many happy weekends cheering on the UT Volunteers at Neyland Stadium.
Upon retirement, Martha Jane moved to The Villages, Florida, where she quickly became actively involved in many organizations and charities in her new home, including Solo Flight Singles at New Covenant United Methodist Church, Busy Hands/Happy Hearts, Tennessee Club, and On the Go Girls. She also pursued new interests through art classes and a variety of card groups.
Martha Jane is survived by her devoted sister, Emily Sue Campbell (George), of The Villages, Florida; sister-in-law, Cynthia Swafford of The Villages, Florida; two nieces, Kimberly Sue Regan (Robert), of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Alison Jane Reilly (Robert), of Atlanta, Georgia; two nephews, Jeffrey Scott Swafford (Ginger), of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Donald Thomas Swafford II, of Hixson, Tennessee; and six great nieces and nephews, Dylan, Aidan, and Caroline Regan, William, and Benjamin Reilly, and Clara Swafford. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Pickett, and brothers Allan Hale Swafford and Donald Thomas Swafford.
Graveside services will be held at Pikeville Cemetery on July 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. CDT.
