Clara Jean Cottrell

Clara Jean Cottrell, 82, of Pikeville, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

She was born to the late Leonard and Beatrice Simmons on November 29, 1931. Clara Jean was of the Methodist faith and was a devoted member of the Mt. Crest United Methodist Church. Some of her favorite hobbies included gardening, planting flowers, and knitting hats and scarves.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Austin Cottrell; son, Ronald Cottrell; and a brother, Dean Simmons.

Left behind to cherish Clara Jean’s memory are her daughter, Donna McMillen; a brother, Ralph Allen Simmons; grandchildren, Donnie (Stephanie) McMillen, Christina (John) Walsh, Rochelle (Ron) Hopkins, and Ronnie Cottrell; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

A Celebration of Clara Jean’s life will be held at Mt. Crest United Methodist Church on Friday, May 30, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Williamson and Bro. Greg Bartley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 29th from 4-8 p.m., and again from 8-11 a.m. on Friday. Clara Jean will be brought to the church for one hour prior to her service on Friday. Burial will be in the W.V. Frazier Cemetery.
