Ruby Smith Gauger

Ruby Smith Gauger, 70, of Spencer, went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2014. She attended the Lonewood Baptist Church of Christ. Ruby was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to work in her garden and plant flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Thelman D. Gauger, brother; Arnold Smith and her parents; Rhodes and Elizabeth Smith.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children; Betty (Lester) Riggs, Spencer, TN., and Stanley (Millie) Fortenberry, Dalton, GA., brothers; Donald L. Smith, Roy W. (Carolyn) Smith, Alvie B. Smith, and Douglas E. (Lois) Smith, all of Pikeville,  Cecil E. Smith, Crossville, TN.,  Thomas (Mary) Smith, Sparta, TN.,  and Rex A. Smith of North Carolina, sisters; Louise (Harold) Swafford, Crossville, TN., Katherine (Jeff) Woodburn, Chattanooga, TN., and Frances King of North Carolina, grandchildren; Shane Riggs, Shawn Riggs, Melanie (Chris) Gibson, Tabitha (Ryan) Newton, and Tara Fortenberry, 

7 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend; William Nipper of North Carolina.

A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held Friday January 31st at 2 pm at the Lonewood Baptist Church of Christ. Services will be officiated by Bro. Cecil Vanwinkle. The family will receive friends from 10 am until 9 pm on Thursday and again on Fri from 10 am until service time at the church. Ruby will be laid to rest in the Ben Smith Cemetery in Pikeville.

The pallbearers will be Rip Vanwinkle, Benny Evans, Russell Woodard, Randall Blaylock, Perry Simmons, Scott Vanwinkle and Rick Smith.
