Savannah Hanson of Bledsoe County was recognized for having the highest overall score and was named American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Achieve Champion.
AQHA Achieve is a three-phase virtual contest designed for youth who want to put their equine knowledge to the test. Open to participants worldwide, Achieve provides an accessible opportunity to compete, learn, and earn recognition from the world’s largest equine breed association.
The first phase of Hanson’s competition consisted of a 70-question hippology-style preliminary exam. More than 250 contestants from eight countries participated, and Hanson was recognized as one of the top three scorers.
The top 20 participants advanced to the semifinal round, where they prepared and recorded a short speech on an assigned topic. Hanson’s outstanding performance earned her a place among the top 10 finalists.
For the final phase, contestants received a finals kit and completed a guided, knowledge-based assessment submitted by video. Hanson excelled, finishing among the top three competitors in the final round.
Final awards were based on overall score and recognized dedication, preparation, and equine knowledge. Hanson earned the highest overall score and was named the AQHA Achieve Champion, a remarkable accomplishment on an international stage.
Hanson resides in Bledsoe County and just finished 10th grade. She is homeschooled and the local 4-H horse club president. Hanson serves as Eagle Scout on the Eastern Region 4-H All-Star Council.
