Thomas H. Matney

Thomas H. Matney, 70, of Pikeville, passed away on October 1, 2013.

Tom was a Godly man, and was of the Church of God faith. He was a logger by trade. Some of Tom’s favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, training mules, spending time with family and attending singings. He was also a 4-time State Grand Champion in rabbit hunting. He was a member of the United Kennel Club.

Tom was born in Truman, Arkansas on February 28, 1943 to the late, Melburn and Maxine Matney. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents; brothers, Doug, Ronnie, Donnie, and Johnny Matney; and a sister, Barbara Matney.

He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Thelma Matney; son, Thomas Corey (Kimberly) Matney; daughters, Crystal (Daniel) Schmidt of Crossville, Joy (Leon) Presley, and Charity (Scott) McCloud; brothers, Gary (Diane) Matney of Truman, Arkansas and Mike Matney of Tallahassee, Florida; sisters, Doris (Boyd) Holloway of Rock Island, Washington and Sandra Baker of Crossville; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends and singing buddies.

A Celebration of Tom’s life was held in the funeral home chapel on October 5 with Bro. Hubert Thurman and Bro. Andy Smith officiating. Burial was in the Collier Cemetery.
