James William Sapp, 86, of Cromona, Kentucky, originally from Pikeville, Tennessee, passed from this life at home among family members on Saturday, July 28, 2012. He was born at Tip Top in Bledsoe County on July 15, 1926.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War aboard the USS Pittsburgh, USS Roanoke, and USS Iowa.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Pikeville, he enjoyed farming and raising horses.
Preceding him in death were wives, Bernice Sapp and Sadie Sexton Sapp; parents, William Jennings “Bill” and Dixie Lee Martin Sapp; sister, Frances Walker; and brothers, Marshall, Leftric Lee “Billy,” Thomas, and Judge Edward H. Sapp.
Survivors include daughters, Diane Wiseman of Cromona, Kentucky, and Kimberly (Danny) Allen of McRoberts, Kentucky; grandchildren, Paige Potter, Nikki and Shae Wiseman; and sisters Betty Jane Griffin of Ringgold, Georgia, and Jeanelle Cunningham and Joanne Turner, both of Pikeville.
Visitation was at Haymond Freewill Baptist Church in Haymond, Kentucky, followed by services Wednesday morning, August 1, at the church. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery in Whitesburg, Kentucky, with full military honors.
