Harold W. Au

Harold W. Au, 91, of Port Charlotte, Florida formerly of Clinton, Iowa; Pikeville, Tennessee; and Venice, Florida passed away March 18, 2011.

Au served his country in the US Army during World War II, going missing in action in Africa. During that time, while trapped behind enemy lines, in order to escape, he and a group of soldiers had to travel through the mountains for 12 days to reach safety.

As a result of his military service, Au received four bronze stars, the Combat Infantry Medal, six Overseas Bars, and was eligible to wear the American Defense Service Ribbon and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. He closed his tour of duty as a musician in the Army Band. Two of his proudest moments were playing for the King and Queen of England during WW II, and receiving the Superior Accomplishment Award from the Venice, Florida Postmaster. 

Au is survived by his beloved wife, Alice; twin daughters, Bonnie A. Krause and Connie J. Wells, both of Port Charlotte, Florida; four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel with interment in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, Florida.
