Wallace Attus Hixson
Wallace Attus Hixson, 86, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2021. He was born and raised in Bledsoe County, Pikeville, Tennessee.
He served six years in the U.S. Army, was an active member for 36 years of Gideons International where he had served as Chaplain and Bible Distribution Chairman. Giving the Bibles at schools, hospitals, prisons, motels, and helping with Bible Blitzes in different cities was something that he really enjoyed.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pikeville where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and trustee. After moving to Dayton, he attended Faith Baptist Church faithfully.
He worked as an operator and superintendent constructing several miles of Interstates 40 and 75 in Tennessee as well as site preparation projects in East Tennessee, and secondary roads in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.
He loved his family, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He also had a love for sports since he had played football, basketball, and softball. He served as an usher at the University of Tennessee football games for 16 years. He was a charter member of the Bledsoe County Rescue Squad.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy (Dock) and Louella Ferguson Hixson; two brothers George and Charles; and one sister Agnes Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Brenda McMillan Hixson; son Lynn (Beth) Hixson, daughter Susan (Earl) Matherly all of Dayton; four grandchildren Ashley Hixson, Laurabeth Hixson, Rachel Matherly, and Thomas Matherly, all of Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Gideons International.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, at the funeral home with speaker Ashley Hixson. Interment followed at Buttram Cemetery.
