Roy Thompson Burgess

Roy T. Burgess, 86, of Pikeville passed away at his home peacefully with his family by his side.

He was of the Baptist faith. Roy worked as a machinist and retired from General Motors. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, and playing golf. If it had something to do with the outdoors, he would enjoy it.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Gabriel Burgess; his parents, Frank and Marsha Burgess; three brothers, and five sisters.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years;,Mary Burgess of Pikeville; sons, Dexter (Linda) Burgess of Dunlap, Don Burgess of Sale Creek, and Doug (Lynn) Burgess of Dayton; two brothers, Calvin (Helen) Burgess of Pikeville and Everett (Jane) Burgess of Cookeville; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, October 3, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Freddie Savage officiating. The family will receive friends beginning on Thursday from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Blackburn Cemetery.
