Erma Fae Hale-Umbarger

Erna Fae Hale-Umbarger, age 79 passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at NHC Farragut following a long illness. Born February 28, 1934 to parents Leonard and Anna Bell Wheeler Hale of Pikeville, Tennessee, she was preceded in death by her parents and devoted husband, James P. Umbarger, Jr. A long-time resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mrs. Umbarger was a retired teacher with Knox County schools having dedicated herself to many students at Farragut, Maryville, and Oak Ridge High Schools, as well as Webb School. She was a faithful member of West End Church of Christ.

Mrs. Umbarger is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Phillip and Rhesa Umbarger of Murfreesboro, and John and Ali Umbarger of Knoxville; grandchildren Rebekah, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Justin, and special family friend, Fay Wade.

Grave side services were held Friday, April 19, 2013 at Pikeville Cemetery with Minister Freddie Clayton conducting.

A memorial service was also held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at West End Church of Christ in Knoxville with Minister Wayne Miller conducting.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Umbarger Scholarship at Pellissippi State Foundation, P.O. Box 22990, Knoxville, Tennessee 37933.
