Betty Kathleen Dodd

Betty Kathleen Dodd, 87, of Pikeville, formerly of Chattanooga passed away on May 30, 2011. 

She was born on June 26, 1923 to the late Marshall and Clata Shoemate Summers Holt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 20-plus years, Robert L. Dodd; stepfather, Elbert Holt; and brothers, Jack and James Holt.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Caldwell of Pikeville; granddaughter, Aimee (Chief Petty Officer Alan) Nelson of Orange Park, Florida; aunt, Marie Garrett of Winchester; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Dodd was a graduate of Chattanooga High School, Class of 1941. She was a veteran of the United States Navy (41-43). She was stationed in Washington, D.C. and worked in the Department of Cryptology and was present when the Japanese code was broken during WWII. She worked as a computer programmer for the Wheland Company and Gordon St. Inc. She retired in 1980.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, June 4 at 2 p.m. and will be officiated by Bro. Doyle Ashburn. A visitation will be held prior to service beginning at noon. Burial will be in the Griffith Cemetery with full military honors.
