Clay “Nace” Swafford, 92, of Spring Valley, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family on Friday, April 8, 2011. He was born September 5, 1918 in Pikeville, the son of William “Bill” and Della (Dyer) Swafford. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific aboard the Navy carrier USS Princeton CVL-23.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Sibyl (Adams) Swafford; a son, Gordon; and brothers, James and Hollis “Gidd” Swafford.
He is survived by his son, Bill (Ann) Swafford of Burlson, Texas; daughters, Nancy (Joe) Bowman of Xenia, Ohio and Sherri (Bill) Reynolds of Mason, Ohio; five grandchildren Rob (Toni) Swafford, Greg (Wanda) Swafford, Brent (Holly) Bowman, Matt (Jodi) Bowman, and Lauren (Daniel) Botts; eight great-grandchildren, David, Aaron Clay, Jake, Molly, Clay, Carson, Nayson and Nevan; and a loving family, with many friends and neighbors.
He attended the Spring Valley United Methodist Church for many years. Swafford lived his life to the fullest, loved doing things for others, and was always there to help anyone however he could. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held April 11 at the Spring Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary and Rev. Sandy Maynard co-officiating. He was interred at Spring Valley Cemetery.
