    Kindergarten parent orientation at Pikeville Elementary is Thursday, August 1 at 6:00 p.m. A parent or representative must attend if their child is enrolled in the program. Come meet the principal an teachers, hear about expectations and routines, student phase-in schedule, required forms, plus questions and answers. It is not necessary for students to attend. If you child did not pre-register in May, please register at the school they will be attending for Kindergarten on August 1 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.B30S31

    Come one, come all to the Pikeville Chapel AME Zion Church’s Community Get-Together on Saturday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. Planned are hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks for free. Eat all you want for free. The church is located on East Valley Road in Pikeville. Turn east from Main Street at the Veterans Memorial onto East Valley Road and the church is on the right, just past the bridge.     Come enjoy a big country breakfast on Saturday morning, August 10 from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Hall in Pikeville on SR 30. On the menu are biscuits and gravy, eggs, potatoes, tomatoes, ham, sausage, bacon, coffee, milk and juice. A modest donation is requested per plate, with the donations going to the group’s charity fund. The breakfast is sponsored by Jo Ann Britt, candidate for Pikeville City Mayor.

  • Sidewalk Chalk and Snow Cones

    Bring the kids Saturday morning, August 10 for a free Sidewalk Chalk and Snow Cones event from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Main Street Stage area in downtown Pikeville. Each kid who registers with their parent/guardian will be given a token for a free snow cone and chalk to draw on the sidewalks in that area. The event is sponsored by the Women on Missions at First Southern Baptist Church. Additional snow cones can be purchased from the Bledsoe County Youth Fair Board with proceeds benefiting the Youth Fair Board scholarship program. B31-32S32

    Warrior Fest is scheduled for Saturday, August 10 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Main Street Stage in Pikeville. Any vendors or concession stands wishing to set up during the event need to contact Michael Boring at 653-8864 or Susie Olinger at 298-4563. This is a free event with bouncy houses, games, activities and fireworks. Orders are being taken by the Bledsoe County Rescue Squad for whole smoke Boston Butts for $35 each, and the local Girls Scouts are selling BBQ plates for $10 each. Any coach who wants to recognize its team and players are welcome to. In case of rain, the event will move to the Pikeville Farmers Market.

    Head of Sequatchie is hosting Sequatchie Valley Family Day on August 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This day is to honor each families’ special place in the history of the Sequatchie Valley and to record this history for the State Library and Archives. Your help is needed to write the park’s history. All family members are invited to enjoy this day. Bring stories and history to share during Family Story Time about life growing up in the valley. Private interviews can be set up to tell park employees what life was like here in the valley. If you have old photos of the area or old documents/articles, please share them at scanning station. These scanned photos and articles will be used to tell the story of the valley. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring a picnic lunch for the lunch break. If you have questions or would like to set up a private interview, please email hannahcrawford@tn.gov.

  • Fairest of the Fair competition

    Applications are available at Pikeville City Hall, Citizens Tri-County Bank, and First Farmers and Commercial Bank for the Bledsoe County Fairest of the Fair Pageant. Competition for 9-year-old an up queens is August 13 at 7:00 p.m. in formal attire, and the 8-year-old and younger is on August 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Fair themed attire (no formal attire allowed). Awards will be awarded to 1st runner up, 2nd runner up, most photogenic, and congeniality. 1. Deadline for entering is Wednesday, August 7, at 6:00 p.m. at Bledsoe County Fairgrounds. Queen Interviews are August 10th for ages 14 and up at 2:00 p.m. The entry fee for all 0-15 year olds is $20, and the entry fee for ages 16-21 is free. B29S30

    New Charity Independent Baptist Church on Brockdell Mountain is holding Revival and a Mission Conference August 19-23 at 6:30 p.m. each evening with Bro. Travis Altop. The Mission Conference is Monday through Wednesday, and Revival services are Thursday and Friday. A meal and fellowship are to follow the Friday service. They are gathering on August 24 at 11:00 a.m. to enjoy a covered dish meal at noon at the Sampson Free Will Baptist Church Activity Center on State Route 30 west at the Van Buren/Bledsoe County line.
