Mayor seeks additional testing of biosolids before spreading on area farms
Bledsoe County Mayor Gregg Ridley met with the City of Chattanooga council and a Synagro representative last week seeking additional testing, beyond EPA requirements, of biosolids (human waste). Many Bledsoe County farmers allow the City of Chattanooga through Synagro to spread biosolids on their pastures as a way to save on fertilizer costs.
Mayor Ridley said he is concerned about Snyagro spreading the biosolids in flood zone areas and he personally has seen them spread biosolids in an area where the slope was over the 15% allowed, and spreading in the rain.
