Matthew Thomas Vaughn

Matthew Thomas Vaughn, 29, of Pikeville, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2026.

Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 18, 1996, Matthew lived a life defined by kindness, loyalty, hard work, and an unwavering love for those around him. He went on to build a successful career as a boilermaker with Local 454, earning the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic.

During his years at Bledsoe County High School, Matthew found a special love for agriculture class, FFA, and greatly valued the encouragement and mentorship of Mr. Collier. The lessons he learned both inside and outside the classroom helped shape the hardworking, dependable man he would become. He graduated in 2015 and later attended Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville, Florida.

Matthew was an exceptionally intelligent and curious man who never stopped learning. He possessed a sharp mind, a generous spirit, and a heart far bigger than he would ever admit. Those who knew him best will remember his willingness to help anyone in need, often putting others before himself without hesitation. His family was his greatest treasure, and he carried a deep sense of responsibility and love for those closest to him.

Though his brothers had long since grown into men, Matthew never stopped reminding them that they would always be his “little brothers.” He cherished his role as a protective older brother and took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of his family.

Matthew had a special gift with children. Gentle, patient, and playful, he adored spending time with his nieces and nephews, who brought him endless joy. He also had a deep love for animals and was known for his compassionate nature toward every creature he encountered.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoyed anime, gaming, and exploring the many interests that fueled his naturally inquisitive mind. Whether sharing a laugh with friends, helping a family member, or diving into a new hobby, he approached life with enthusiasm and authenticity.

He is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Christina McMillen and Warren Martin of Pikeville; brothers, A.J. Vaughn and wife, Kerri, of Pikeville, Mason Wooden and wife, Faith, of Pikeville, and Austin Martin and wife, Stephanie, of Murphy, North Carolina; grandfather, Tom McMillen of Pikeville; uncles, Donnie McMillen of Pikeville, Billy McMillen and wife, Claudia, of Parisippany, New Jersey; nieces and nephews, Wrenly Wooden, Harmon Wooden, and Adeline Vaughn, all of Pikeville; cousins, Bratcher McMillen, Brooke McMillen, Bryce McMillen, all of Pikeville; Tommy McMillen and Tanner McMillen of Binghamton; and Daniel McMillen and Nico McMillen of Parisippany; along with numerous extended family members, friends, and coworkers who will forever cherish his memory.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Donna McMillen, Gearlean Humble and Billy Taylor; his uncle, Tom McMillen; his beloved nephew, Theodore Martin; and his girlfriend, Hailey Green.

A Celebration of Life service honoring Matthew’s life will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McDonald Farm, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating.

Though his time here was far too short, Matthew’s legacy of kindness, loyalty, hard work, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
