Fate of Veterans Hall and local AL and VFW clubs is unknown

“It’s like brother against brother” —

Last week, five cars carrying individuals associated with the State and National Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) arrived at the local Veterans Hall. They confiscated VFW Post 5033’s records and the guns used by the Honor Guard for 21-gun salutes at funerals and Veterans Day ceremonies.

The local VFW Club had been placed on a 90-day suspension, explained District 3 Commander Vicki Patterson, to give them the opportunity to hold a meeting and take minutes of that meeting to prove they were still active. A meeting was called but no quorum met during that time, she said, so according to the National Bylaws that’s an automatic revocation of their charter.
