PFD prepared for grain bin rescue

As Bledsoe County prepares to welcome Aviagen’s feed mill early next year, Pikeville Volunteer Fire Department is preparing for the mill’s opening. The department was recently awarded a grain bin safety tube and accompanying training from Nationwide.

Nearly 400 grain entrapments have been recorded in the past ten years, according to Nationwide, with an estimated additional 30-percent going unreported. In the most recent data year, there were 38 grain entrapment cases, a nearly 30-percent increase over 2018 and a four year high.
