Coach’s raise splits board
The decision to allocate funds to give Bledsoe County High School Football Coach Dennis Therrell an additional $500 per month salary created tension between board members at their June 5 meeting.
Board Member Don Snow brought the motion to the board to give Therrell the additional monies, equal to $6,000. It was advised that the only legal option the board had was to make the money available, and Director of Schools Jennifer Terry would have the discretion of whether or not to give the money to Therrell.
“You’re saying we are going to do this for everybody, so are we voting to give that money to anyone we recommend,” Board Member Stacey Farmer, who was in vocal opposition to the measure, asked Snow.
