Grover “Pete” Brown

Grover “Pete” Brown, 71, of Pikeville, Tennessee, died Friday, July 3, 2026, at his home.

He grew up in San Diego, California, as a pastor’s kid. He moved back to Tennessee in 1973 to attend Tennessee Temple, but finished his Bachelor’s Degree at UTC. He worked at Human Services in Pikeville and then moved to Taft Youth Center and worked there until it closed. He then went to Bledsoe County Correctional Complex until he retired.

He was ordained as a pastor in 1989. He started Emmanuel Fellowship Baptist Church in 1998 and pastored there until 2025. After retirement, he enjoyed wood working, gardening and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Imogene Brown; uncle, Grover Bailey; great-nephew, A.J. Hladik; great-niece, Katherine Huff; and father-in-law, Wayne Colvard.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy Brown of Pikeville; children, Rachel (Lucas) Dodson of Rockwood, Zach Brown of Pikeville, and Joey (Jessie) Brown of Calhoun, Georgia; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emma Dodson and Eleanor Brown; siblings, Pat (Don) Hladik of Phoenix, Arizona, Judy (Jim) Green of Hixson, and John (Sharon) Brown of Antioch; mother-in-law, Shelia Colvard of Pikeville; sister-in-law, Sandra (Adam) Underwood of Pikeville; brother-in-law, Eric Colvard of Pikeville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 8, at 2:00 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Roger Morrison officiating. Burial was in Dill Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday, July 7, from 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. CDT and Wednesday, July 8, from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. CDT.
