Precinct voting takes place Tuesday, May 5, throughout Bledsoe County as Republican and Democrats will choose their candidates for the General Election in August. Early voting ended Thursday, April 30, and as of Monday afternoon, a total of 685 voters took advantage of the early voting hours, reports Election Administrator Lisa Wheeler.
In the primary, two major offices will be decided because only Republican candidates are vying for the positions of County Mayor and County Clerk.
With current Mayor Gregg Ridley’s decision to not seek office, three Republicans have thrown their hat in the ring – Leland Burks, Kris Frady, and Amanda Holland Pack.
Incumbent County Clerk, Genese Angel Sapp, is being challenged for her office by two other Republicans Robin Tabor Terry and Dawn Singleton.
Whoever wins the primary for those two offices will not be opposed in August.
Three major office holders have no opposition including incumbents Michael Walker, Circuit Court Clerk; Jeanine Boynton, Register of Deeds; and Tracey Cagle, Trustee.
As for the County Road Superintendent, incumbent Benny T. “Tobe” Smith [R] will be challenged in August by Independent candidate John T. “Tim” Simmons.
Incumbent Sheriff Jimmy Morris [R] will face opposition in August by his challenger Clint Holloway [I].
