Mary V Wheeler to celebrate 60 years of education
Mary Virginia Panter Wheeler, also known as “Aunt Mary” was a mother of 10 who became a widow at 38, who made sure her children had a high school education, whose namesake – Mary V. Wheeler Elementary will celebrate its 60th year of educating the children of Bledsoe County on the Cumberland Plateau.
Her legacy will be celebrated on Sunday, September 29 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the school and the community is invited, said current Principal Michael McAnally. Mary V. Wheeler Elementary is hosting an open house at the school. On display will be poster-sized pages from the first yearbook throughout the school. A BBQ lunch is going to be served, he said, then at 3:00 p.m., the celebration with guest speakers begins.
