Failure to pay $796,287.47 in back property taxes by Whoriskey, Inc. to redeem its title to the former Dura building in Pikeville has resulted in the transfer of the property to the City of Pikeville and Bledsoe County, reports County Mayor Gregg Ridley.
Since 2017, Whoriskey, Inc. has failed to pay the annual taxes on the property, except for one year. (See accompanying chart.)
On September 5, 2025, the property was sold in a tax sale to the City of Pikeville and Bledsoe County, with a 180-day redemption clause to give Whoriskey, Inc. the opportunity to pay the back taxes and redeem the property. The company failed to do so, and the City of Pikeville paid their portion of $227,044.78 and the County paid their portion of $569,242.69 to cover the back taxes.
Mayor Ridley noted, both entities paid what was owed from the sale to the Clerk & Master on Monday, March 23, 2026. The majority of that money will come back to the government agencies within 10 days except for court sale fees. From there, he said, the City and County have the right to sell the property if they choose.
Whoriskey, Inc. acquired the property from Textile Corporation of America, LLC (TCA) in July 2019 after TCA had purchased it in July 2017. TCA failed to establish its textile operations in the facility and later, legal action was taken against its owners for fraud.
