Those interested in gardening, who may not have a site or space of their own, are encouraged to participate in the community garden project this season. The community garden is open to residents of Sequatchie and Bledsoe counties and is located off Highway 127 in Dunlap, between Erlanger Sequatchie Valley and the Sequatchie County Health Department.
UT Extension-Sequatchie County Director Sheldon Barker explained members of the Sequatchie Valley Master Gardners (SVMG) group spent two days at the end of 2025, repairing raised beds, removing weeds, replenishing soil, and winterizing the garden for a productive growing season.
“There are 11 raised garden plots available, each measuring 6 feet by 4 feet,” Barker said. “Plots are open to both experienced gardeners and beginners. The program provides an opportunity for residents who may not have gardening space at home to grow their own plants, while also offering families a hands-on way to introduce children to gardening and outdoor activities.”
Applications may be submitted through the following methods:
•Online, complete the application form at https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/6DBGqAYnxZ.
•Download, print a hard copy from the UT-Extension Sequatchie County website and return to the UT Extension Office at 170 Church Street, Dunlap.
•In person:, Pick up and submit a hard copy application at the UT Extension Office, 170 Church Street.
The seasonal fee is $10 per plot. For hard copy applications, payment is due at the time of submission. Applicants submitting online must pay the $10 fee within two weeks by delivering or mailing payment to the UT Extension Office.
To support gardeners of all experience levels, UT Extension Sequatchie County will host a monthly gardening education series in 2026. The program includes a mix of online and in-person classes covering practical topics for home gardener, Barker said.
“In addition, Master Gardeners will be available at the Community Garden site throughout the season to offer guidance and answer questions,” he added.
