At the 19th annual Coordinated School Health (CSH) Institute in Nashville, individuals across TN were recognized during the Award of Excellence ceremony. Two of those honored are part of the Bledsoe County School System Coordinated School Health Program.
During the ceremony, the Division of Coordinated School Health also recognized Award of Excellence recipients for each of the eight components of Coordinated School Health. Beverly Tarver was awarded the excellence in Health Education.
The School Health Champion of the Year is a prestigious award to honor exceptional leaders who demonstrate unwavering commitment to connecting health and wellbeing to academic success. Michelle DeBord-Rains, RN was chosen as a top finalist, this award recognizes outstanding Coordinated School Health leaders, representing one or more components, from across the state.
The Bledsoe County Coordinated School Health team was also invited to participate in several presentations highlighting the outstanding work taking place across the district. These presentations showcased innovative initiatives, including the district’s comprehensive vaping prevention program and the implementation of best practices to address student health concerns.
Michelle Rains led a session focused on grant writing, demonstrating how actively pursuing external funding opportunities can significantly transform school programs. Her presentation emphasized how strategic grant efforts can change the trajectory of a district by expanding resources, strengthening student services, and ultimately creating a positive impact that extends throughout the entire community.
“I am honored to celebrate these individuals who represent the very best of what is possible when health and wellbeing are connected to academics through strong partnerships among students, families, schools, and communities,” said Lori Paisley, Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Coordinated School Health. “Their inspiring work exemplifies how our districts and schools are creating supportive environments where students feel safe, healthy, and ready to learn.”
