Numerous property owners who could be affected by the widening of State Route 28/US Highway 127 attended a public design meeting held Tuesday, July 9 by the Tennessee Department of Transportation at the high school. This is the first phase of the widening of the road which is from Humble Cemetery Road northward to the five-lane roadway in Pikeville.
Representatives with TDOT were present to answer questions and discuss the proposed project. Right Of Way (ROW) acquisitions are expected to start in 2025, and the actual construction project is slated to begin in 2028. The cost of the project is estimated at $72 million.
