Velma Faye Swafford Frady

Velma Faye Swafford Frady, 80, of Pikeville, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday, September 18, 2023.

She was a member of Sampson Freewill Baptist Church and attended Community Freewill Baptist Church until her homecoming. She was born February 22, 1943 in Bledsoe County, Tennessee, delivered by her aunt, Lola Felts Daniels.

Velma worked as the Secretary of Mary V. Wheeler School and then at Taft Youth Center before retiring. She was also a founding member of the Bledsoe County Historical Society and served as president for one year.

Velma and Tonya loved to spend their time together attending estate sales, doing family research and genealogy, and everything about local and family history.

Velma and Tina loved to spend their time together traveling. They traveled all up and down the East Coast, Maui and especially her trips to Florida to watch Brittany perform in her Select Ensemble at Walt Disney World and Epcot.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lottie Nonive Felts Swafford and Carlos Casto Swafford; sisters, Shirley Wendland Swafford, Reva (Mack) Swafford, Evelyn Swafford and Diane Cranfill.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, Riley Frady; daughters, Tonya (Robby) Roberson of Pikeville, and Tina (Todd) Jakoby of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brittany (Curt) Holmes of Mt. Juliet, Haleigh (Chase) Coffman of Knoxville, and Adam Roberson of Pikeville; expected great-grandchild, Baby Coffman; brother, Michael Keith Swafford of Dayton; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Services were held Saturday, September 23, at 2:00 pm at Community Freewill Baptist Church off Summer City Road with Bro. Jimmy Jewell and Bro. Jacob Frady officiating. Burial was in Blankenship Cemetery.
