Virgil T. Fields, Jr.

Virgil T. Fields, Jr., 94, of Pikeville, Tennessee died Monday, October 31, 2022, at his home.

Junior attended auto mechanic school through the Ford Motor Company in Atlanta, Georgia. For the majority of his life, he worked as an auto mechanic in Pikeville, alongside his brother, Everett; first at Brown & Wilson Motor Company and then Ridley Ford before the brothers bought the business, renaming it Pikeville Motor Company. They worked there until their retirement. After retirement, Junior worked part-time as a mechanic at the Bledsoe Farmers Co-op.

He was a champion amateur golfer with many course records, tournament wins, and hole-in-ones to his credit. He attended Faith Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Wilva Fields; wife of 70 years, Virginia L. Fields; brothers, Everett, Billie and Donald Fields; and sisters, Geneva Tracy, Betty Edmons and Bonnie Panter.

He is survived by his children, Patsy (Bill) Ellis of Pikeville and Trudy (David) Shell of Boone, North Carolina; grandchildren, Hope (Neal) Ashburn of Whitwell, Justin Ellis (April Sasport) of Knoxville, and Alex Shell of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Maddie Ashburn and Jaxson Ellis, both of Knoxville; brothers, Bobby (Dolly) Fields, Ray Fields, John L. Fields and Jackie (Joyce) Fields, all of Pikeville; and sisters, Faye Walker of Pikeville and Flora M. (Charles) Farmer of Knoxville.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 4, at noon in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Doyle Ashburn and Bro. Ronnie Colvard officiating. Burial was in Brushy Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice of Cleveland, TN along with the dedicated team of caregivers that provided Junior with round-the-clock care until his passing.
