Joe Fields, 88 of Sale Creek, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2022.
He was born April 10, 1933 to the Late Johnny Fields and Oma Burgess Willis in Pikeville, Tennessee. Joe’s favorite holiday was Easter, and this year he gets to spend it in Heaven. In many ways he was a very big kid at heart, but he was a firm believer in hard work, a trait that he carried to his last day.
He has lived all over the country, from as far west as California to the Midwest where he was a steel and iron worker in Ohio. He came back to Tennessee from Ohio in the mid-sixties. For many years he worked in road construction and worked on crews that built some of the interstate highways across the country. He worked on the crew that converted our local two-lane Highway 27 into the four-lane road that it is today. He also helped build Highway 111.
At other times, he worked as logger. His passion was hunting rabbits with his beagles, Suzie and Julie, who he left with his special great-nephew, Eugene (Rose) Owens who shared the love of the hunt with him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Fields; children James Owens and Barbara Keltch; and siblings Robert Fields, Martha Thacker, Lois Hale, Frances Dent, Mary McCans; and many more special family and friends.
Joe is survived by his children, Pamela (Randy) Horn, Dorothy (Henry) Clevenger, Mae Dean (Larry) Jones, Arthur (Tammy) Owens, and Paul Owens; sister-in-laws Dene (TW) Standefer, Juanita Hooker; special grandchildren, Drew Lynn (Art) Farrell, Stephanie Lauren (Zack) Younce, Heather (Scott) Jenkinson, Angie, Sandra (Roy), Ron, Amanda; special great-grandchildren Brooke, Ayden, Peyton, Emily, Wesley, Jeanna; and many, many others including many nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 3:00 p.m. EST at Sale Creek First Baptist Church, 15116 Wall Street, Sale Creek.
