“Project Protein” could bring much-needed jobs

Bledsoe County Commissioners approved a resolution to allow the Industrial Development Board to offer a tax abatement plan for Aviagen’s planned $32 million expansion for a poultry feed mill at a joint meeting on Monday, November 4.

The proposed project known as “Project Protein” would be on a 50-acre tract the City of Pikeville currently owns off the U.S. 127-bypass across from Subway. The land was gifted to the City in 2001 by Charles David Sheldon and his family gave local governments permission to build a road through adjacent properties to reach the tract of land which sits approximately a quarter-mile off the bypass.
