Gledys Ellen London Burton

Gleyds Ellen London Burton, 91, of Pikeville, died Thursday, October 2, 2014. Born July 12, 1923, she was raised in the Cold  Springs community. She loved the Lord, her family, gardening, cats, and coconut cake. Mrs. Burton was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Pikeville, where she taught Sunday School for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Gledys was preceded in death by husband, Richard S. Burton; parents, Wesley and Adelia Fann London; sister, Lura Belle Bales; brothers, Clarence, John, and Arnold London.

She is survived by two sons, Gary (Ruth) Burton of Pikeville and Stan (Susan) Burton of Ooltewah; two granddaughters, Bethany (Stacy) Merriman of Pikeville and Jenna Burton of Harrogate; two great-granddaughters, Bree and Pearl Merriman of Pikeville; one brother, Greer (Ann) London of Pikeville; three sisters, Laura Lou (Willard) Miller of Pikeville; Edith Hinds of Crossville; Ina Jean (Edgar) Gifford of Pikeville; special friends, Bob and Irene Foster of Pikeville; eleven nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church with Bro. Doyle Ashburn, Bro. Bill Wolfe, and Bro. Albert Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Iron Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 3:00-9:00 pm at the church.
