Ray Harland Shaver Sr.

Ray Harland Shaver Sr., 87, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Rhea County Life Center.

He was born October 25, 1925 in Rhea County and was the oldest of eight children of Leland and Katholeen Shaver. He was a 1943 graduate of Rhea Central High School, and attended the Golden Grad Reunions up until the time of his passing. He had been a farmer, sawmill operator, builder, and was retired from JimBil Construction Company in New Jersey where he worked for many years. Upon retirement he returned to the family farm on Dayton Mountain.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Shaver; his parents; and three brothers, Dean, Alvin and Jimmie Shaver.

Survivors include three children, Ray Harland “Skip” (Debbie) Shaver, Joe Leland (Evelyn) Shaver of Dayton, and Mary Ann (Michael) Schuler of Harrison; four grandchildren, Josh, Jake and Joey Shaver and their families, and Ray Randolph; two sisters, Fay (Bill) Bishop of California, Linda (Elmer) Hinds of Dayton; two brothers, Edwin (Mary Nell) Shaver and Lynn (Linda) Shaver of Dayton, as well as three sisters-in-law Doris Shaver, Jo Anne Shaver and Phyllis Shaver of Dayton. Several nieces, one of which is Vicky Kelly who provided for his care, several nephews and cousins.

Interment was beside his wife Mary, at Second Shaver Cemetery in Dayton. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice or your favorite charity.

Arrangements were made by Coulter Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton.
