Athletics at Bledsoe County High School play a role in a well-rounded education and those that lead these students on the field and on the court play a role in the students’ life. BCHS Principal Matt Ridley has added four new and a seasoned veteran coach to the roster.
Beverly Tarver returns to lead the Lady Warriors basketball team. She brings 18 years of basketball coaching experience and 10 years of volleyball coaching experience, along with a proven record of success, said Principal Ridley.
Among her coaching accomplishments are leading the middle girls to District Champions, West Tennessee State Tournament Runner-Up, East Tennessee State Tournament Champions; BCHS two-time District Champions and third-time District runner-up in basketball. As head volleyball coach, she led the team to two District Championships, Region Championships, State Tournament Qualifier and four-time District runner-up.
“More importantly, Coach Tarver has dedicated her career to developing young people, building strong programs, and creating a culture of excellence. We are excited for the future of Lady Warrior Basketball under her leadership,” added Principal Ridley.
From seasoned veteran to newcomer as a head coach, Syerra Rogers steps into the position as head coach of the Lady Warrior softball team.
She may be new to coaching, but not to playing the game. Rogers played collegiate softball for four years at Carson-Newman University.
“Coach Rogers brings a passion for the game, a strong softball background, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. We are excited for the future of Lady Warrior Softball under her leadership,” Principal Ridley said.
She currently serves as a Pre-K teacher at Cecil B. Rigsby Elementary School and has been an assistant coach for both the Bledsoe County Middle School and Bledsoe County High School softball programs.
Another newcomer as head coach, Lucas Travis has been selected to lead the Lady Warriors soccer program.
Travis currently serves as the CTE Marketing teacher at BCHS, advises our DECA program, and is an assistant coach for the Warrior Baseball team, said Principal Ridley. He is passionate about helping young people grow both in the classroom and through athletics, emphasizing responsibility, leadership, communication, and the value of hard work.
Prior to joining BCHS, Travis taught at Bledsoe Middle School, Rhea Middle School, and Central High School. He brings seven years of baseball coaching experience and two years of experience as an assistant soccer coach.
“Coach Travis envisions a program built on effort, accountability, toughness, and unity,” said Principal Ridley. “At the heart of that vision is Ohana—a word meaning family. Under his leadership, the Lady Warriors will strive to create a culture where every player feels valued, supported, and challenged to be their best. His goal is to build a team that competes for one another, celebrates each other’s successes, and stands together through every challenge.”
Rounding out the head coaching lineup is Emilee Tabor. She joins the athletic program as an assistant coach for Coach Tarver. Tabor is a proud 2021 graduate of Bledsoe County High School, where she excelled as a dual-sport athlete in both basketball and softball. Following graduation, she continued her softball career at Tennessee Wesleyan University, helping her team make multiple appearances in the National Tournament. In 2023, she received the NAIA Character Award for the AAC Conference and recently graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education, specializing in K-12 Physical Education with a minor in Public Health.
Tabor is entering her second year teaching Physical Education at Wheeler Elementary. In addition to joining the Lady Warriors basketball staff, she also serves as an assistant softball coach for both the BCHS and BCMS softball programs.
“As a former Lady Warrior, Coach Tabor is excited to return home and invest in the next generation of student-athletes. She is passionate about developing players through strong fundamentals, accountability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic,” added Principal Ridley.
