This weekend, June 13-14, about 20 cyclists will be peddling on East Valley Road, from Sequatchie County to the head of the Sequatchie Valley in Bledsoe County. It is a 24-hour ultra endurance event known as Sequatchie 24. Motorists are asked to use caution and slow down on the entire stretch of East Valley Road from Lower East Valley to Upper East Valley.
Sequatchie 24 has various options for riding for cyclists. They can do a 75-mile ride or 150 miles with the primary objective being how far they can ride in 24 hours.
Riders will be riding on the roadway at night, so motorists are encouraged to be aware. There is one route for the cyclists, which is mostly on East Valley Road.
During daylight hours, cyclists will ride 75 miles from The Grove at Center Point in Dunlap and continues northward to Lowes Gap Road, north of Pikeville. At night the route is shortened to 45 miles so riders can stay south of Pikeville and not cross State Route 30.
The race kicks off at 7:00 a.m. and ends 24 hours later.
