    Sing-spiration to help Community Food Bank

    You can sing for someone else’s supper on Sunday, September 30 at the Bledsoe County Ministerial Association’s Sing-spiration to benefit the Bledsoe County Community Food Bank. Already in 2018, the Food Bank has given out over 22 tons of food to hungry families, and the need keeps growing. Currently, the Food Bank’s wish list includes bar soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, and canned hams for the holidays. You can donate directly to the Food Bank, or bring items or monetary donations to the Sing-spiration. The Fifth Sunday event is hosted by the Pikeville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, beginning at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow. This event is the first public duty for new Association President Mark Cox, pastor of the host church.BS38

    Monthly meeting for Senior Citizens Center

    The Bledsoe County Senior Citizens Center is holding its monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a covered dish lunch by the members. This represents a permanent change from the second Wednesday of the month to the first Wednesday of the month, noted Center President Alvin B. Weston.BS40

    Chamber sponsors Fall Fest Scarecrow Contest

    The Pikeville-Bledsoe County Chamber of Commerce invites all Bledsoe County businesses to participate in the Fall Festival Scarecrow Contest. All entries need to be taken to the Pikeville Farmers Market by Wednesday, October 3 for judging. The winning business will be awarded with a Fall Festival trophy and the Chamber will feature the winner in The Bledsonian-Banner.     The University of Tennessee Extension Bledsoe County and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture is having a TAEP FY2018-2019 Sign-Up Day on Thursday, October 4, at the UT Extension Bledsoe County office from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. UT Extension staff and TDA are going to be present to help producers fill out applications. They will be conducting Beef Quality Assurance Certification for those who need it. Please call or come by for more information.     Fall Festival Golf Tournament

    The Pikeville-Bledsoe County Chamber of Commerce invites you to compete in the second annual Fall Festival Golf Tournament being held Friday, October 5 at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Shotgun start is 8:00 a.m.  for this four-person scramble. You could win $10,000 for a hole in one, sponsored by Matt Massengille with Farm Bureau. Prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, and longest putt. There are two flights with first, second and third place awards given in each flight. Entry is $300 per team, and hole sponsors are $100 each. Mulligans can be purchased at the course. The day includes lunch at the golf course immediately following the round.     Clothes closet at Winesap Free Will Baptist

    On Saturday, October 6 Winesap Free Will Baptist Church will open its clothes closet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The clothes closet will be open every first and third Saturday of each month until further notice. Anyone needing clothes or who knows someone who does can come by at this time. The church will have nice clothes for work, play and dress of all sizes at no charge. The church is located on Lantana Road (Hwy. 101) at the Bledsoe-Cumberland county line.     Join Walk Across Tennessee with Extension

    UT-TSU Extension Bledsoe County is sponsoring Walk Across Tennessee, an 8-week competitive walking program. There is a physical activity conversion calculator on walkacrosstn.org for those who do activities other than walking for exercise. Come up with a creative team name, go register your 6-person team, and start tracking your exercise. Register and report online at https://extension.tennessee.edu/Bledsoe/Pages/Walk-Across-Tennessee.aspx. Mileage starts Saturday, October 6 and goes through Saturday, December 1. The Oktoberfest Glow Run is the kickoff event for Walk Across Tennessee. Prizes will be awarded at the end of eight weeks.BS38-40
