    Seniors can apply for scholarship

    The Bledsoe County Republican Women’s Club urges all Bledsoe County High School seniors to apply for the $1000 scholarship being offered by the organization. Deadline is Monday, May 1. Please ask BCHS Guidance Counselor Cyndi  Johnson for more information and application. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA or an ACT score of 21. Scholarship will be awarded with $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the second semester. B17

    Boater education class offered

    All boaters born after January 1, 1989 must successfully pass a Boater Education Course to operate a boat legally. A class is being offered at the Bledsoe County Agricultural Extension Office on May 1st from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. To take the course a student must purchase a $10 Type 600 Boating Safety Exam Permit from a licensed agent and bring it to the class.

    Boater Education study manuals can be picked up at the Bledsoe County Public Library or at the Bledsoe County Extension office. For more information contact Mark Patterson at 447-6629.B17

    National Day of Prayer

    The 2017 National Day of Prayer is being observed on Thursday, May 4,  at noon, with a short prayer gathering in front of the Bledsoe County Courthouse in Pikeville. In 1954, the United States Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. This year’s local prayer service is being sponsored by the Bledsoe County Ministerial Association. There is no sermon, only prayers for our nation, state, community, homes, schools, churches, etc. Representatives from numerous different local congregations are leading the prayers. Everyone is invited to attend. Seating is limited, so you are welcome to bring a lawn chair. B17S18

    Target shoot at Ersie’s old store on SR30

    The Walden’s Ridge Community Emergency Response Team is hosting a target shoot on Saturday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Ersie’s Store on SR30 on Walden’s Ridge. Shooters will use .22 rifles and pistols and shotguns.BS17
