A representative with Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) is going to be at the Bledsoe County Courthouse on Thursday, November 1 beginning at 11:00 a.m. If you have legal problems with housing/mortgage/foreclosure, consumer, health/benefits/food stamps, family, unemployment or senior, and qualify for free legal assistance, you can apply for help. On Thursday, November 1, a Bledsoe and Sequatchie County Pond Management Field Day is being held at Perry Swafford’s Farm, near 6868 Lower East Valley Road, Pikeville (0.4 miles north of College Station Road. Aquatic Weed Management, Fish Sampling Demonstration and Stocking Rates, Pond Sealing Options, and Conservation Programs are the topics to be discussed. The Bargain Basement continues to be open at Pikeville United Methodist Church on Main Street in Pikeville on the first and third Saturdays of each month. A special Christmas room has been set up and on Saturday, November 3, the United Methodist Women are having their annual bake sale set up outside the Bargain Basement rooms. Hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Pecans will be arriving in mid-November for your holiday baking. B44

On Saturday, November 3, the Luminary-Frostbite Volunteer Fire Department is having its first Saturday fried chicken fund raising lunch at the fire hall  located at 13002 Summer City Road in Spring City. Lunch is from noon until 3:00 p.m. EDT and includes one entree, two vegetables, one side item, bread, dessert and a beverage. Proceeds help support the department. Everyone is invited. B44

A depression recovery and anxiety program is offered every Monday beginning November 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pikeville Seventh-day Adventist Church fellowship hall, 52 Cumberland Avenue, Pikeville. This is for anyone or anyone who has a loved one suffering from depression or anxiety. The cost is free except for materials you may want to purchase. The Pikeville Group of Alcoholics Anonymous meets at First Southern Baptist Church, 2827 Main Street, Pikeville. Big Book Study is at 6:00 p.m. Mondays, and 12 Steps & 12 Traditions book study is at 5:00 p.m. Saturdays in the lower level of the church. Both are open AA meetings and all are welcome to attend.BS45

On Tuesday, November 6 beginning at 5:00 p.m., a chili and hotdog supper for Election Night is being held at the Bledsoe County Senior Citizens Center on Frazier Street in Pikeville. Dine-in or carry-out available. The event is hosted by the Bledsoe County Republican Women’s Club and proceeds benefit the annual high school scholarship fund. Plates are $10 each and include, chili, hotdog, slaw, chips, dessert and drink. Come eat, fellowship and watch the election results.B44S45

Paws and Claws Animal Shelter’s monthly meeting is Thursday November 8 at the Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative Meeting Room on Cumberland Avenue in Pikeville at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and maybe help them build an animal shelter for the Sequatchie Valley area.BT44S45

A Country Music Benefit is being held at Walden’s Ridge Community Center, 5364 Dayton Mountain Highway for Cyndi Leach, Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee, on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. Funds raised will help her compete for Ms. Wheelchair America in Little Rock Arkansas. Classic Country Music by local entertainers with special guest fiddler. Admission is $5 and concessions are available. Door prizes to be given away.BS45

The Bledsoe County Nursing Home invites everyone to come and shop the Book Fair on November 9. Lots of great items available that would make great holiday gifts for friends and family. Registration is open to enter The Ferris Wheel 5K Walk/Run being held Saturday, November 10 at the Van Buren County Fair Barn in Spencer. Entry fee is $20 before November 1 with a T-shirt guaranteed for those registering by that deadline. Proceeds benefit the Van Buren County Fair Association to secure a carnival for the 2019 Fair. Members of American Legion Post 66 and VFW Post 5033 will have a big country breakfast Saturday, November 10 from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Hall in Pikeville. Come out and enjoy biscuits and gravy, ham, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, tomatoes, coffee, milk and juice for a donation going towards the maintenance and upkeep of the facility. Griffith Volunteer Fire Department is holding a fund raising Sunday luncheon on November 11 beginning at noon. Loaded potato soup, cornbread, dessert and drink are on the menu for $7 per person. All proceeds go to the fire department.BS45

Revival at Frostbite House of Prayer with Danny Williams is November 11 at  6:00 p.m. EST and November 12-14 at  7:00 p.m. each evening. BS45

Recently, authorities seized numerous cats and dogs from a residence in Sequatchie County. Many of the animals have been placed in homes, but several remain at the former zipper factory in Dunlap. Volunteers are needed to help take care of the animals by socializing the pets, cleaning cages and walking dogs. If you are willing to volunteer, you can go by the zipper factory and be added to the schedule or email justspay@aol.com.BTS45

Toy drive begins

Those who know of Bledsoe County children in need of Christmas can start calling the Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Department’s Christmas Toy Drive on November 12 at (423) 447-2197 ext. 450. Call-ins will not be accepted after December 10 for the toy drive. Be sure to leave the child’s age, gender, and address with a good working telephone number when you call.

If anyone wants to make a monetary donation please make checks payable to the Bledsoe County Christmas Fund. If you wish to donate canned goods, please bring them to the jail before December 10. The toys and food boxes will be delivered on December 17-18.B45S46

The Sons’ of Confederate Veterans is meeting November 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bledsoe County Rescue Squad. SVC Commander Norman Angel is presenting the Christian origins of the Confederate Battle Flag. Everyone is welcome. Refreshment are provided. B45S46

On November 15, Santa Claus is coming to Pikeville Elementary to have pictures made with the students. He is going to be there from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Any child is welcome to have his or her picture made. Pre-pay envelopes are available at the school.BS45

The annual pecan sale by the Pikeville United Methodist Women is underway. Bags are $10 for whole halves, pieces, cinnamon glazed, chocolate covered, chocolate clusters and dark chocolate. Pecans are available at Bilbrey Insurance on Spring Street in Pikeville Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.BS46

The Bledsoe County Community Food Bank is open Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering or for questions, please check with us when we are open or call 447-3325. Holiday closings: November 22, and December 24 and 31.BS46

The annual Christmas Craft Show at Lake Tansi Village in Crossville is Friday and Saturday, November 16-17 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day at the Thunderbird Recreation Hall. Lunch is available both days. Santa Claus is going to be there Saturday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. to greet the kids and give out treats. The Lake Tansi Village Church Choir is singing Christmas Carols form 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free and all are invited.BS45

The monthly community meeting of the Luminary-Frostbite Volunteer Fire Department, located at 13002 Summer City Road in Spring City, is Friday, November 16 at 6 p.m. EDT. They need volunteer firefighters, auxiliary volunteers. All types of donations are welcomed also. Everyone is invited.BS46

On Friday, November 16, the monthly fund raiser salad luncheon at the Bledsoe County Senior Citizens Center is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. due to the Thanksgiving holiday. On Saturday, November 17 Winesap Free Will Baptist Church will open its clothes closet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The clothes closet will be open every first and third Saturday of each month until further notice. Anyone needing clothes or who knows someone who does can come by at this time. The church will have nice clothes for work, play and dress of all sizes at no charge. The church is located on Lantana Road (Hwy. 101) at the Bledsoe-Cumberland county line. The Mt. Crest Fire Department is having its last breakfast of the season on November 17 from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There will be someone at the fire hall on Friday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to take donations. All proceeds go to the upkeep of the fire hall, gas, and equipment they use during a fire or setting up for emergency helicopter landing.BS46

Crest United Methodist Church is serving a Traditional Community Thanksgiving Feast on Thanksgiving Day, November 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church, 32979 SR30 West of Pikeville (next to Wheeler Elementary). Join the Pikeville Farmers Holiday Market on Saturday, November 24 beginning at 3:00 p.m. and shop local for your holiday gifts. Stroll through the night market and enjoy some hot cocoa. Fresh cut Christmas trees, wreaths, baked goods, handmade holiday gifts and decor are available. Santa arrives around 6:00 p.m. for pictures under the string lights. The 22nd annual Christmas Parade starts at 5:00 p.m. at the walking track and continues along Main Street to the downtown area and ends at Thomas Street. Wheeler Elementary’s PTO Basketball is getting ready for another season. Sign-ups have begun for this year’s basketball teams. You may pick up a participant form at Wheeler, BCMS, BCHS, or download one by visiting the Wheeler Elementary website. Celebrate the Christmas season with Take Me Back To Bethlehem being presented in First Southern Baptist Church’s Family Ministry Center on three different evenings – November 30, December 1 and 2 at 6:30 p.m. Come enjoy the live nativity, living Christmas tree, Christmas light show, music by the adult choir and a large collection of nativity scenes presented by the church’s members.
