    Bobby Loyd’s famous grilled chicken is being served to benefit the Dr. James A. Ross House and Bledsoe County Museum on Saturday, July 6. Donna and Bobby Loyd are sponsoring the fund raiser from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the area of the Farmers Market in downtown Pikeville during the Cruise-In and Summer Nights band concert. Bledsoe County Historical Society members are helping serve the grilled chicken sandwich, chips, water and homemade chocolate chip cookies for $7 per bag. Come early and help support the continued preservation of the Dr. Ross House and Bledsoe County Museum. B26-27S27

    A Universe of Stories is in full swing at the Bledsoe County Library. Story hour with Kathi Britt at 1:00 p.m. each Wednesday continues through July 10. The summer reading program ends July 17 with a performance by Kevin Kidd and Company at 1:00 p.m. at Nickel Row Music Hall on Main Street in Pikeville. An ice cream party follows across the street at Ember’s Ice Cream Shoppe which is sponsored by Belinda Ault. Readers must complete the program by reading or listening to ten books to attend the final parties. It is not too late for kids to sign up for the summer reading program if they can find time to participate.     The 29th annual Van Buren County Mountain Homecoming is Saturday, July 13 from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. In concert are 3DC featuring Michael McMeel, former member of Three Dog Night. Also appearing are The Agees, David and Jeanette Rogers, Mostly Aces, Misfire, Flat Creek, Earl Swindell, The Smokey Mount’n Bandits and Dark Hollow. Kids’ Day Camp is July  15 through 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day. The week of July 29 through August 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily Kids’ Sports Camp is being held. Come enjoy Bible study, crafts, sports and water activities plus breakfast and lunch are provided at both camps. There is a $20 materials fee per child per camp.     On July 17-19, Bledsoe County High School’s volleyball team is hosting its annual fund raiser volleyball/basketball camp for girls second through eighth grade. Camp is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day at a cost of $175 for both camps. Campers receive a basketball, volleyball and daily lunch. Registration on July 17 begins at 7:00 a.m. If attending the basketball camp only, the cost is $100, and starts at 8:00 a.m. each day. Basketball campers can be picked up at 11:30 a.m. and will receive lunch and a basketball. If attending the volleyball camp only, the cost is $100 and campers can be dropped off at 11:30 a.m. with lunch provided along with a volleyball.     Bledsoe County businesses are asked to decorate their store fronts depicting what the Bledsoe County Agricultural Fair means to them. This is the Centennial Jubilee for the Fair, celebrating 100 years. Displays could be agricultural, carnival, craft or any fair related events, past or present. The winning business receives $50. Entries need to be in by July 18, but no longer than August 1. Winner will be announced August 17, the closing night of the Fair. For more information contact Vanda Wilhoit at (423) 298-7797. B29S30

    Bledsoe County Community Food Bank is needing donations for the 127 Yard Sale. Money obtained from the sold items goes back to the food bank for the purchase of food. Items can be brought by the food bank on Cumberland Avenue in Pikeville on Monday’s from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. You can also call 423-447-3325, leave a message and someone will get back with you as soon as possible to make arrangements to receive them.
