FBI fugitive spotted in Bledsoe, captured in Rhea County

A fugitive wanted on charges by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) evaded local and federal agents before eventually being caught in Rhea County on Friday, September 6, according to Bledsoe County Sgt.     Yard sale fundraiser for nursing home

    On Friday, April 6, the Bledsoe County Nursing Home is hosting a yard sale fundraiser to benefit activities for residents. The sale will start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. in the dining room. No early birds please. Several items were donated to sell and individuals will be selling their items as well.     The 2018-2019 Election of Board members by the community for the Luminary-Frostbite Volunteer Fire Department is April 6. Voting must be done in person and will begin at 6 p.m. EDT. All members of the community are encouraged to attend and vote. You must be 18 years old or up resident, land owner or business owner inside the department’s district in order to vote. Early and absentee voting is not being allowed per County Commissioner Tim Campbell.

    Pikeville Farmers Market opens Saturday

    Opening day for the Pikeville Farmers Market is Saturday, April 7th in Downtown Pikeville from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Thirty-two-plus vendors with items such as fresh local produce, baked goods, cut flowers, homemade fudge, natural soaps, wood crafts, and more are expected. Free wi-fi provided by Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative at the market. Face painting and music are also planned.

    Benefit and Memorial Ride for J.B. McDowell

    On Saturday, April 7, a Benefit and Memorial Ride for J.B. McDowell’s medical and funeral expenses, is being held. The ride begins at Lusk Community Center at 6:00 a.m. with country breakfast plates and drink for $7 per plate. Horse and wagon ride leaves the center at 10:00 a.m. At 1:00 p.m., lunch and an auction are planned. Lunch plates include hamburger or chili dog with 2 sides and drink for $7 per plate.     Clothes closet at Winesap Free Will Baptist

    On Saturday, April 7, Winesap Free Will Baptist Church will open its clothes closet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The clothes closet will be open every first and third Saturday of each month until further notice. Anyone needing clothes or who knows someone who does can come by at this time. The church will have nice clothes for work, play and dress of all sizes at no charge. The church is located on Lantana Road (Hwy. 101) at the Bledsoe-Cumberland county line.     The Pikeville United Methodist Women’s annual spring rummage sale has been changed to a year-long Bargain Basement sale. Beginning April 7 you can find quality clothing, household items and other miscellaneous items as they come in during the year for a very affordable price. All proceeds from the sales will be used for missions near and far. Opening hours are the first Saturday of each month and the third Thursday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    The 2018 Rabies Clinic, sponsored by Dr. Donna Crow with Mountain Top Veterinary Services and the Bledsoe County Health Department is Saturday, April 7 in Pikeville. The clinics are at Pikeville Elementary from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and Mary V. Wheeler Elementary from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $12 per pet. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. and pictures with the Easter Bunny are at 9:30 a.m. An Easter egg hunt with the Easter Bunny starts at 10:00 a.m. On the menu are scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, fruit, hashbrown potatoes, bacon, sausage, fried bologna, country ham, coffee, milk, orange juice for $6 per plate.
