    On Friday, April 6, the Bledsoe County Nursing Home is hosting a yard sale fundraiser to benefit activities for residents. The sale will start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. in the dining room. No early birds please. Several items were donated to sell and individuals will be selling their items as well.     The 2018-2019 Election of Board members by the community for the Luminary-Frostbite Volunteer Fire Department is April 6. Voting must be done in person and will begin at 6 p.m. EDT. All members of the community are encouraged to attend and vote. You must be 18 years old or up resident, land owner or business owner inside the department’s district in order to vote. Early and absentee voting is not being allowed per County Commissioner Tim Campbell.

    Opening day for the Pikeville Farmers Market is Saturday, April 7th in Downtown Pikeville from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Thirty-two-plus vendors with items such as fresh local produce, baked goods, cut flowers, homemade fudge, natural soaps, wood crafts, and more are expected. Free wi-fi provided by Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative at the market. Face painting and music are also planned.

    On Saturday, April 7, a Benefit and Memorial Ride for J.B. McDowell’s medical and funeral expenses, is being held. The ride begins at Lusk Community Center at 6:00 a.m. with country breakfast plates and drink for $7 per plate. Horse and wagon ride leaves the center at 10:00 a.m. At 1:00 p.m., lunch and an auction are planned. Lunch plates include hamburger or chili dog with 2 sides and drink for $7 per plate.     On Saturday, April 7, Winesap Free Will Baptist Church will open its clothes closet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The clothes closet will be open every first and third Saturday of each month until further notice. Anyone needing clothes or who knows someone who does can come by at this time. Beginning April 7 you can find quality clothing, household items and other miscellaneous items as they come in during the year for a very affordable price. All proceeds from the sales will be used for missions near and far. Opening hours are the first Saturday of each month and the third Thursday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    The 2018 Rabies Clinic, sponsored by Dr. Donna Crow with Mountain Top Veterinary Services and the Bledsoe County Health Department is Saturday, April 7 in Pikeville. The clinics are at Pikeville Elementary from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and Mary V. Wheeler Elementary from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $12 per pet. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

    Bledsoe County senior citizens and all local produce farmers are invited to attend a SNAP program presentation on Thursday, April 12 at noon at the Senior Citizens Center. There are free applications and assistance, no trips to DHS, also other special deductions for seniors you probably do not know about. The Senior Citizens Center is located at 148 Frazier Street, Pikeville, beside the old rock jail house, behind the Pikeville Clinic. Call JoAnn at 447-6111 for more information. This is an opportunity for the community to utilize the local Farmers Market and local farmers. With the SNAP program, some offer double dollars on every purchase.

This a meet and greet for each candidate running for a public office in Bledsoe and Van Buren Counties to reach out to the public on important issues of their campaign. Each candidate has three minutes to introduce themselves and address the crowd. The Fall Creek Falls Community Action Group is serving a pulled pork sandwich meal to the public beginning at 4:30 p.m. It includes smoked pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, slaw, chips, a snack cake and drink for a $6 donation to the Center. All proceeds from the meal benefit the Center in paying utility bills and upkeep expenses. Any candidate wanting to participate please call Michael or Andrea Blankenship at 423-881-5154.
