Brewer arrested on over 50 counts of forgery

After eluding authorities since March 29, a former Bledsoe County deputy is in custody. Jake Brewer, 32, now will have to appear in Circuit Court, answering to over 50 counts of forgery and theft related charges presented in indictments returned by the Grand Jury.     Family and Friends Day at Pikeville Chapel AME

    Pikeville Chapel AME Zion Church is celebrating Family and Friends Day on Sunday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker for the 3:00 p.m. service is Rev. Paul Roberson and the Brakebill Chapel AME Zion Church in South Pittsburg. Pastor J. R. Bridgeman and the Pikeville Chapel members welcome everyone to come and share in this celebration worship gathering.

    Easter Bunny coming to Pikeville Elementary

    The Easter Bunny is hopping his way to Pikeville Elementary to have pictures made with students and other children on Monday, March 12 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Prepaid envelopes are available in the school office for anyone wishing to bring their children for photographs. Packages range from $15 to $25 and proceeds benefit the school.B9S10

    Spring Star Party at Fall Creek Falls State Park

    Come to Fall Creek Falls State Park for the Tennessee Spring Star Party being held March 16-18. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., the shuttle services from the Inn lobby to the observation field are available and ends at 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Many activities are planned Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. with various guest speakers. If inclement weather, movies will be shown. The observation field will be cleared at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

    Spay and neuter help line offered for area

    Second Chance Pet Group volunteers are waiting for calls on its spay and neuter help line. The Pikeville and Dunlap scheduling procedures have changed to daily, not just one a month services. Call 554-4442 to discuss your pet’s needs. Leave your name, phone number, best time to return your call, and what service you need. Volunteers will call you and schedule your appointments. If you are blocking private callers, they will not be able to reach you. The organization has been assisting the communities for the last seven years.

    Senior soup lunch at Luminary-Frostbite Fire Dept.

    The third Saturday fund raiser, March 17, is a Senior Soup Lunch at the Luminary-Frostbite Volunteer Fire Department, 13002 Summer City Road in Spring City. Lunch is served from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. EDT and includes a serving of soup, salad or sandwich and a beverage. Proceeds raised help support the department and community-supporting activities. Everyone is invited.

    Clothes closet at Winesap Free Will Baptist

    On Saturday, March 17 Winesap Free Will Baptist Church will open its clothes closet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The clothes closet will be open every first and third Saturday of each month until further notice. Anyone needing clothes or who knows someone who does can come by at this time. The church will have nice clothes for work, play and dress of all sizes at no charge. The church is located on Lantana Road (Hwy. 101) at the Bledsoe-Cumberland county line.     Breakfast at Mt. Crest Fire Hall on March 17

    Mt. Crest Volunteer Fire Department is holding its monthly breakfast on Saturday, March 17 from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. The fire department will be open Friday, March 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for donations. All proceeds go for the upkeep of the fire hall, gas, equipment used during a fire or setting up for helicopter landing.

    Lusk Community Center needs volunteers to help

    Volunteers are needed March 17 at 8:00 a.m. at the Lusk Community Center to upgrade lighting, plumbing, building and playground maintenance, weather permitting.  Please bring tools and equipment that could be used for this project.
