State corrects City sales tax mixup

The state says they have corrected an issue where the City of Pikeville was missing out on sales tax revenue from several businesses within the city limits such as McDonald’s, according to Tennessee Department of Revenue Director of Communications Kelly Nolan Cortesi. THe cost of placing a name on the wall is $100 and should be accompanied by an application and a DD214 (separation or discharge paper).     It’s time to Turn Pikeville Pink to bring awareness to breast cancer and the need to show support for this deadly and often preventable disease. Businesses are encouraged to decorate their store windows and members of the community are asked to wear pink Friday, October 6.

    Chicken dinner at Luminary-Frostbite Fire Dept.

    The Luminary-Frostbite Volunteer Fire Department is serving a chicken dinner on Saturday, October 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Choose from fried chicken, meatloaf, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, vegetables, deviled eggs, rolls, chicken noodle soup, dessert and drink for $6 per plate for adults, children eat for $3. Please come and enjoy this event and support the department. Tickets are available for a $500 Academy gift card to be given away December 2.

    Darvin, Jennifer Oakes celebrate 50th anniversary

    The children of Darvin and Jennifer Oakes invite everyone to share in the celebration of their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary at an open house in their honor on October 7 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. It will be held at Fall Creek Christian Campground, 300 Fall Creek Camp Road, Spencer. The campground is 12 miles west of Pikeville and 10 miles east of Spencer on State Route 30, near the north entrance of Fall Creek Falls State Park.

    Join the Bledsoe County Rescue Squad on the bypass in Pikeville for a country breakfast on Saturday, October 7 from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. Enjoy sausage, country ham, fried bologna, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits, gravy and drinks all for $6 per plate. Proceeds benefit the operations of the Bledsoe County Rescue Squad.

    Clothes closet at Winesap Free Will Baptist

    On Saturday, October 7, Winesap Free Will Baptist Church will open its clothes closet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The clothes closet will be open every first and third Saturday of each month until further notice. Anyone needing clothes or who knows someone who does can come by at this time. The church will have nice clothes for work, play and dress of all sizes at no charge. The church is located on Lantana Road (Hwy. 101) at the Bledsoe-Cumberland county line.
