Bessie Mae Carter

Bessie Mae Carter, 88, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, formerly of Winder, Georgia, passed from this life on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Born in DeSota County, Arcadia, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Stephen Mihlfeld and Mary Edna Mihlfeld of Climax, Georgia. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Winder, Georgia and retired from First Federal Savings and Loan of Winder.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Dewitt Carter; her twin brother, Rev. Beryl R. Mihlfeld; half-brothers Sid, Roy, and John Mihlfeld; and half-sister, Julia Bradley.

Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Chuck Moore of Lenoir City, Tennessee, Donna and Marshall DeBord of Pikeville, Tennessee, Denise and Ralf Nicolai of Deltona, Florida; son Steven D. Carter and daughter-in-law Carol Carter of Winder, Georgia; grandchildren Charlotte Moore (Bryce) Wylie, Cheryl Moore (Jonathan) Harrell, Brandon (Samantha) Nicolai, Chelsea Nicolai, Marlana DeBord (Travis) Smith, Celena Hooper (Grain) Taylor; great-grandchildren Josiah, Malachi, Samuel, Abram, and Eden Harrell, Adyson and Emery Wylie, Audrey Smith, Carter and Cameron Nicolai, and Garrett and Mila Taylor; and sister, Gladys South; and many nieces and nephews.

Services are Friday, March 22, at 10:00 a.m. EST at Smith Memory Chapel in Winder, Georgia with Rev. Rusty Newman and daughter, Deborah Moore officiating. Internment will be in Barrow Memorial Garden.
