Colt Blankenship

Colt Blankenship, 23, of Pikeville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at his home.

Colt packed a lot of life into his short 23 years. He loved hard and was loved by so many. He was especially good-hearted and always saw the best in everyone. He held his friends and family close in his heart.

Colt was a 2019 graduate of Bledsoe County High School. His high school career included being a member of the archery team, where he had the highest score in the state tournament during his junior and senior years. He was a member of the Beta Club, the DECA Club, the BCHS Band, where he was the percussion captain during his senior year and was also voted superlative for technology. He was also awarded a full scholarship to Bryan College.

Colt was currently employed with Blankenship Sawmill, a family-run business, and was a college student studying to become a psychologist.

He attended Pitts Gap Church of God, but started on his path at Sampson Freewill Baptist with his grandmother, Lorene Blankenship, who took him almost every Sunday.

Colt had many interests which included his love of music. He played the piano and the drums. Colt loved his red GT Mustang and enjoyed playing video games.

His love of animals comes from his mother, Bonnie. His current pets included two dogs, Bach and Kira, as well as his horse, Gray Matter.

His love of farming came from his dad, but also from farther back, a grandfather he never met, Clarence.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Thelma Lee Swanner, and James Earl and Lorene Blankenship. Colt was blessed to know one great-grandmother, Anna Lou Blankenship, and one grandmother, Lorene Blankenship. Lorene doted on this child and now they are reunited.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved daughter, McKenna Celeste Blankenship; fiancé, Ashley Walker; parents, James Howard and Bonnie L. Blankenship; nan, Shelba Smith; aunt, Teresa (Larry) Farley; uncles, Billy Wade (Liz) Blankenship, David (Donna) Blankenship and Dwight (Lisa) Blankenship, who were also his God-parents, all of Pikeville; lots of cousins; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Colt’s life will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Blankenship Cemetery.
