Verna Lee Harris

Verna Lee Harris, 78, of the Luminary Community in Pikeville, Tennessee, died Monday, November 6, 2023.

She was a member of Webb’s Chapel Church of God for 62 years and served as a clerk there for over 30 years. She also assisted with the church food bank. She loved word puzzles, games and thrifting. She was also adventurous, enjoyed traveling, and squirrel hunting with her husband. She most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Nellie Thurman; brothers, Alvin, Grady, Clifford and Ola Thurman; nephew, Calvin Thurman; and great-nephew, Jimmy Angel.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hollis Harris of the Luminary Community; children, Rosetta (Edgar) Robertson of Crestview, Florida, Nora “Jeannie” (Randal) Allen, and Benny Harris, both of the Luminary Community; grandchildren, Johnathan Allen, Sarah Robertson, Will Robertson, Cole Harris, and Callie Harris; great-grandchildren, Thomas Allen, Cecelia Allen and Henry Allen; sisters, Lola Heard of Pikeville and Leota Drake of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Friday, November 10, at 1:00 p.m. at Webb’s Chapel Church of God with Rev. Jackie Penney officiating.  Burial was in Dunn Cemetery.
