Saving a man’s life, never expecting to be repaid
Over 30 years ago, Wayne DeBord, went to a friend’s house and heard a commotion behind the house. Three men were beating the man to death, he said. He saved the man’s life that day, and before he passed away from Leukemia, the man paid DeBord back for saving his life by giving him one of his old vehicles – a 1938 Chevy.
DeBord was born in Pikeville, but grew up in Chattanooga. When he had children of his own, he moved his family back to Pikeville so his kids could go to school in a better environment than in a big city school.
