Jo Ann Powell Cross, 84, of Pikeville, Tennessee passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Jo Ann was of the Baptist faith, and attended Mt. Crest United Methodist Church. She loved her husband of almost 65 years, and was looking forward to celebrating in July.

Jo Ann loved her family, liked to travel, was an avid reader, student of the Bible, enjoyed singing and had that very outstanding lady voice. Jo Ann was very involved with children in different youth ministries and churches. She taught school in several states while traveling the world with her husband before moving to Pikeville, where she taught at Taft Youth Center and also at the Adult Education Center teaching the GED Program.   

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Ashford Thorton and Edna Louise Dewey Powell.

Jo is survived by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Thomas James Cross, Lt. Col. Retired from United States Air Force; sons, Jeffery Ashford Cross, Robert Thomas Cross, Timothy James Cross; daughter, Laura Ann Cross; foster daughter, Mary Simmons; granddaughter, Allison Marie Cross Attkisson; great grandchildren, Riley James Cross, Stella Jo Hanley; brother, Jerry Powell; sisters-in-law, Hyang-Ryon, Judy Ann Helms, Rebecca Ann Miller; nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.

A celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 5, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Bruce Bayless and Bro. Rudy Oakes officiating. Burial will follow in Seals Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, and 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
