UPDATED INFO (February 14): TBI investigating officer involved shooting
UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING
Sequatchie County Sheriff Bill Phillips has released the name of the Correctional Officer and the inmate who was shot allegedly escaping after medical treatment at Erlanger Bledsoe in Pikeville on February10 that is being investigated by the TBI.
The Sequatchie County Correctional Officer involved was Karen Line and the inmate/escapee involved is Cody Ray Higdon, 33. Higdon currently is back in the Sequatchie County Justice Center jail facility with additional charge(s) from the February 10 events pending further investigation by the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office.
Higdon’s charges include:
- Two Counts of Aggravated Assault on a First Responder
- Resisting Arrest
- Escape
- Public Intoxication
- Disorderly Conduct
- Two Counts of Assault on a First Responder
The shooting incident remains under investigation by the TBI, said Sheriff Phillips, and his department is very limited on what information they feel at liberty to release at this time.

TBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Pikeville. A Sequatchie County inmate who was hospitalized overnight at Erlanger Bledsoe tried to escape custody while he was being released from the hospital, according to Bledsoe County Sheriff Jimmy Morris. Reportedly the inmate fled the hospital out the front door. As he was running around the facility to Rockfort Road, the Sequatchie County Correctional Officer sent to transport him back to Dunlap, discharged her weapon, said the Sheriff. The inmate was hit by the shot and had to be flown out by emergency helicopter for treatment, stated Sheriff Morris
